'Delivering Ration to Villages'

Q: What is the process of distributing foodgrains to households? How difficult is it to source these?

Public Distribution System (PDS) Shopkeeper: Earlier, people used to come to the shop, but now we go to villages to deliver ration. We distribute ration while ensuring physical distancing.

Sourcing foodgrains is difficult, and many times there is a delay and we don’t get ration on time.

Q: Is anything else offered to beneficiaries apart from ration?

PDS Shopkeeper: There are other things also, but we don’t give these for free. The price here in the PDS shop is much lesser than the market price though.

This interview was conducted with a Public Distribution System Shopkeeper in Solan, Himachal Pradesh in Hindi on 27 July 2020, and has been translated.
